The first appointment includes a comprehensive intake to review your health history, lifestyle, and goals. Based on this information, we create a plan tailored to your specific needs.
During sessions, your brain receives real-time feedback designed to develop healthier brainwave patterns, regulation, and resilience. For optimal results, sessions are scheduled twice a week. Sessions are a total of 45 minutes, with no more than 30 minutes of training time.
Every brain is different, and every story matters. Our goal is to provide compassionate, personalized care that helps children, teens, and adults feel more regulated, focused, and supported.
Starting something new can raise a lot of questions. Here are a few of the most common things people ask about neurofeedback and our process.
Non-clinical neurofeedback is a broader approach, training areas of the brain responsible for maintaining optimal functioning. For example, someone might train to better manage the stressors of day-to-day life but has not been diagnosed with or is not being treated for an anxiety disorder. This approach does not require significant assessment to accurately determine causation of symptoms, nor is the reason for intervention due to a clinical issue.
Clinical neurofeedback is a necessary approach for those who are experiencing more significant symptoms and/or who have a clinical diagnosis. Individuals who require clinical neurofeedback have been diagnosed with a disorder, typically by a clinical neuropsychologist. This ensures appropriate diagnosis, a targeted treatment plan based on your specific diagnosis(es), and ongoing clinical oversight and care.
We work with individuals of all ages. In our program we generally do not see kids under the age of 5 because it tends to be hard for younger kiddos to sit still for neurofeedback. Outside of that, we see individuals of all ages…even well into their 80s!
In our clinic, sessions last approximately 45 minutes. At the beginning of the session, small sensors (called electrodes) are placed on the scalp. They do not put any electrical activity into the brain — instead, the electrodes read your brain’s electrical activity. Your brainwaves are displayed in real time on a computer in the form of a game. By watching the game, your brain knows if it is making enough of the appropriate brainwaves or too much/too little of certain brainwaves that result in symptoms. The auditory and visual feedback allows your brain to learn to create more functional brainwave patterns resulting in improvement in overall functioning.
